E57 scan → DXF linework
Point cloud in.
Survey-ready CAD out.
ScanLab VX turns laser scans into ground surfaces, contours, curbs, walls and pipe runs — and exports clean DXF your drafters can use without fixing it first.
Why ScanLab VX
Built for the linework, not the pretty picture.
Plenty of software can show you a point cloud. ScanLab VX is for the step after that.
Traced off the scan
Top of curb, flow line, top and bottom of wall, the edge of the building, the centreline of the pipe — as real 3D polylines, on the layers your CAD standard expects.
Ordinary hardware
ScanLab VX streams an E57 instead of loading it whole, so a site-sized scan opens on a working laptop. Merge several scans — a FARO scan in metres beside a photogrammetry model in feet — and each keeps its own units.
Your data stays yours
Scans are read off your own disk and processed on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded, ever. When a client asks where their site data goes, that is a one-line answer.
The modules
Start with Topo. Add what the job calls for.
One serial number — each module you add unlocks on it.
Topo
Everything a site survey needs from a scan.
- Ground — classify ground returns, build the surface, clip it to a site boundary, and edit it vertex by vertex.
- Contours — generated from the surface at the interval you set.
- Curb & drive — curb and gutter, driveway cuts, walkways, steps and gutters, labelled TC / FL / EG.
- Walls & fences — retaining walls as solids on their true footing, fences with gates and pilasters. The ground breaks cleanly at every wall.
- Buildings — footprints and outlines traced from the scan.
- Trees — trunks found and measured, with canopy.
- Sections & levels — cut a section anywhere; set floor and roof levels.
Architect
For the building, not just the site. Model walls, detect door and window openings, and produce plan and elevation views, with export for BIM.
Plant
For pipe. Detect runs, trace them and fit their size. Section a whole rack at both ends, fit a circle on every pipe, and each run is built end to end in one pass.
What you get out
Files your drafters will not have to clean up.
True 3D polylines, and flat linework as editable 2D polylines with real arcs and linetypes. One layer per kind of thing — concrete, fences, building.
Solid models of walls and structures, ready for visualisation or coordination.
COGO points — TC, FL, TW, BW and more — straight into your survey software.
Pricing
Pay for the modules you use.
One serial number per seat. Add a module later and it unlocks on the serial you already have.
Topo
The base module. Everything a site survey needs from a scan.
+ Architect
Adds building modelling: walls, openings, plans and elevations.
Requires Topo
+ Plant
Adds pipe detection, tracing and fitting.

Questions
Good to know
What does it open?
E57 point clouds — the exchange format every major scanner exports.
Does it run on Mac?
Yes. ScanLab VX installs on Windows and macOS.
Are my scans uploaded anywhere?
No. Files are read from your own disk and processed on your own computer.
How does the serial number work?
Buy Topo and you get a serial. Enter it in ScanLab VX to activate. Add Architect or Plant later and they unlock on the same serial. Each serial can be active on two computers at once — a desktop and a laptop.
